Hideri was once the most celebrated gem merchant in The Crystal Highlands of Armaria. They had it all: a flawless business suit, a reputation for shrewd deals, and the innate geomantic ability to find flawless crystals. Their only mistake was listening too closely to a vision from the waters of Namazu, which showed their entire fortune crumbling to dust. Fearing a market crash, Hideri liquidated every last crystal and invested their entire fortune in what they believed was the next big thing: artisanal, hand-whittled toothpicks. A week later, a minor earth tremor—a seismic hiccup they could have stopped with a flick of their wrist—shattered their empty warehouse. The vision was literal. The grin is all that's left of their assets.
