Chimper #129
The Heart-Bearer of the Marshlands, the cultists call them, with a sneer. To the Soul Chasers, Ketsu is a function—a pair of scuffed boots that cross the lava fields without complaint. They see the strange, floating heart as a mockery, a foolish symbol in a realm of ash and hate. But the messages always arrive, sealed and on schedule, a reliable nuisance they are forced to tolerate. To a worried client in the Overworld, Ketsu is a lifeline. They see the constant tremor in their hands, the way their eyes dart behind their spectacles as they take a new parcel. This, they believe, is courage—the only courier willing to descend into The Underworld to deliver hope to those left behind. The fear is just proof of the risk involved. But Ketsu knows it isn't courage. It is pure, unyielding terror, eclipsed only by the promise they made to someone waiting in the gloom.
