The Dojo’s most artistically ambitious trainee, Remiya believes a perfect sword strike should also be a work of art. This philosophy puts them in constant, hilarious competition with their rival, Shouun, whose technique is brutally efficient and entirely artless. There was the week Remiya insisted on practicing forms with a brush tied to their katana’s pommel, leaving a trail of ink splatters across the training grounds. Shouun simply completed the exercise. Then came the attempt to meditate on a moving raft in the lake, which ended with a loud splash. Each failure is met with a charming smile and a declaration that true genius is never tidy, as Shouun quietly collects another point from the instructors.
