Issa

The palace guards in The Teikodian Empire claim Issa can walk through sunbeams, but the truth is far less glamorous. They were once a scribe's assistant, a small figure lost in the grandeur of gold spires and white marble. Their world was one of cold floors and dusty scrolls, until they stumbled into a shadowed laboratory hidden beneath the blinding city. They saw an experiment that should have cost them their life. Cornered, Issa threw up their hands, and from their palms erupted a pure, shimmering light that shattered the lab's equipment. They fled that day, trading their old life for a mask and the open road.
