Chimper #3215
The Master of Patience, the dwellers of Waterfall City call them. They sit for hours on the lower steps, rod held steady, their bowlcut unruffled by the mist from the falls. Younger chimps watch in awe, certain Kanata is communing with the river spirits. One finally gathers the courage to ask for their secret. Kanata, whose line has been hopelessly snagged on a frog merchant's discarded sandal for the past hour, stares into the middle distance and says, "The river gives you not what you want, but what you need." At that exact moment, the line snaps free, launching the soggy sandal into the air. It lands with a wet slap right at the young chimper's feet. Kanataโs poker face remains unbroken.
