The glowing lantern Kukoko carries is not for finding paths; it’s a memory of a night when all paths were lost. Before that, Kukoko was just a merchant in The Heart of the Forest, their formal shirt and tie a curious sight among the amber leaves. Then the haunted wanderer, Yukimura, passed through, and the forest’s peace shattered. When they were ambushed, Kukoko grabbed their combat pole not as a warrior, but as someone refusing to die. While Yukimura fought like a storm, Kukoko moved like the forest itself, scrambling up ancient vines to gain high ground and fend off attackers from above. Yukimura left as quietly as they came, but the name they gave Kukoko stuck. These days, they're back to brokering goods and slurping ramen, but the lantern stays lit.
