The most unassuming fisher in Waterfall City is what most call Kanayoshi, if they call them anything at all. They are known for two things: the red fox beanie they never remove and the carton of strawberry milk they are always sipping. Customers see their embarrassed eyes and haggle mercilessly, a transaction Kanayoshi always seems to lose. Their sibling, Mamiji, often visits the stall, and they share quiet words that drift away on the mist from the falls. No one pays them any mind. But the beanie is a signal. The milk means it’s safe to pass information. The fishing line catches more than just river fish; it snags oilskin pouches containing coded warnings. Kanayoshi’s shy gaze misses nothing—every deal, every shadowed face, every nervous tic. Mamiji turns these observations into actions, protecting the city from threats no one else even knows exist.
