Hayame

The Wasteland's Reluctant Sentinel, they call them. Hayame never wanted the chimpborg eyes that could cut through the magical fog of The Dragon Wastelands, and they certainly didn't ask for the rivalry that came with them. Before the enhancement, they and Takiyo were just trainees, competing over who could find the rarest wildflower or the sweetest berries. But after a rockslide nearly blinded them, they accepted the Empire's 'gift' to see again. Takiyo saw a shortcut, a betrayal of natural strength. Hayame just saw a painful way to keep living. Now, Takiyo's challenges are a constant, unwelcome drumbeat in their quiet life. Hayame just wants to find a dry spot, chew on a choc stick, and remember a time when winning simply meant getting the last laugh.
