Suguhiko

The apple stick has known two lives. In its first, Suguhiko used its sharpened end to fend off whatever lurked in the foggy valleys of The Dragon Wastelands. Survival was a grim, lonely business of poking through skeletal remains for anything edible. Its second life began when they met Toto, a retired master who saw not a desperate scavenger, but a spirit in need of purpose. Instead of a lesson in combat, Toto offered a lesson in sweetness, teaching them how to find the hardy apples that grew in sheltered crags. Over a small fire, they learned to boil sap and coat the fruit, transforming a crude spear into a confection. These days, Suguhiko’s mask still hides their face, but their gleeful eyes give them away, offering a candied apple to anyone who looks as lost as they once were.
