Chimper #5288
Kokosa keeps two lists. The first is for the village: who needs which berries, whose roof leaks, the best time to harvest honey from the amber-leaved trees. Everyone sees this one. The other list is known only to Kokosa. Etched onto thin strips of bark and hidden within their haori, it records details seen only through the tactical goggles beneath their Kitsune mask: the unnatural shimmer near certain pale trees, the way shadows stretch too long at dusk, the names of locals who hum forgotten, discordant tunes. They chew on an apple stick, offer a neighbor some chocolate, and smile with eyes that have measured the precise distance to every exit from the glade. The forest must remain happy, and happiness requires careful, silent pruning.
