Chimper #602
The wizards of the Crystal Highlands claim Arinosuke's ramen broth is a complex scrying medium, its steam revealing fleeting images of possible futures. Arinosuke, who just uses good pork bones and a lot of patience, has never seen anything but steam. They are a cook, not an oracle, who took a wrong turn on a delivery and ended up in a land of spinning monoliths and glowing rocks. Their most frequent critic was Shiromi, a rival artisan who insisted magically-conjured meals were the pinnacle of efficiency. The feud was legendarily petty until a magical mishap left Shiromi unable to taste anything but static. Defeated, they tried Arinosuke's noodles. It was the first real thing they had tasted in a week. They still argue, but now it's over a shared bowl, lantern light soft against the brilliant sunset.
