Chimper #1114
Kihachi does not ask for forgiveness from the living. To the young wizards training in the fortress of midnight stone, they are a terrifying legend. They whisper that the guiding lanterns are soul-traps, a cruel trick to lure the unwary into chasms that glitter with useless, magical rocks. The senior geomancers, however, see something else. They have watched through scrying pools as those same lights led lost travelers away from the disorienting glow of a kaleidoscopic sunset. They speculate that Kihachi walks a long path of penance, a drive for redemption not unlike the tales of Andeddo. But the prospector they saved tells the simplest story: a silent, painted face, a low growl, and a light that showed the one true way home.
