Chimper #1910
The Angler of the Upper Districts was, for a long time, defined by their rivalry with Tomiji. They fought over the best fishing spot where the river curved past bamboo-lined streets, a silent, gleeful war of tangled lines and stolen bait. Esaburou would use their strange headset to listen for the whispers of the current, convinced technology gave them an edge. The feud only broke during a sudden, freezing windstorm that swept down from the mountain, turning the purple sky a shade darker. Over the static, Esaburou heard a cry for help. They found Tomiji pinned by a heavy bamboo stalk, their usual bravado gone. The rescue was quiet, awkward. The next morning, a perfectly carved lure sat beside Esaburou’s rod. The rivalry was over. They fish together now, a shared silence more meaningful than any victory.
