Yuuchi

On the morning the great river ran clear for the first time in a generation, Yuuchi remembered the mud. Not the river mud, but the rumors and lies they’d slung at Mayusa, their rival merchant in Waterfall City. Yuuchi had been ruthless, believing profit was a battle won only when someone else lost, and they nearly drove Mayusa to ruin. But when a blight emptied the nets and famine threatened the lower city, Yuuchi saw their ledgers were full of coin and their life was empty. It was Mayusa, with nothing, who shared their last rations with a hungry child. The gesture shattered Yuuchi's pride. They offered their entire stock to their enemy, no strings attached.
