Suteyoshi is the best listener in Waterfall City. They learned early on that no one guards their tongue around a chimper who seems more interested in polishing fish scales than in politics. So they perfected the art of being harmless. The relaxed tee, the easy smile—it’s all a carefully constructed identity, the perfect cover for a trainee. A person you tell secrets to without thinking. Every night, though, a different mask goes on. The training is brutal, silent, and solitary. Each rumor they overheard at the docks becomes a piece of a puzzle, every whispered deal a potential weakness to exploit. Sometimes they wonder which face is real. The mask they wear in the sun is just as vital as the one they wear in the dark; one gathers the whispers, the other acts on them.
