The Red Panda of the Lower Docks they call them, though Ouhiko has walked every rock-hewn stair from the sprawling huts at the bottom of the great cascade to the pale stone temple at the top. The mask was a gift, a sign of friendship with the border-wardens of the high peaks, but Ouhiko wears it mostly for the children who live along the river. Their adventurer's pack rarely holds maps or weapons; it’s stuffed with sweet, fluffy marshmallows. Their journeys aren’t for conquest, but for connection—checking on the frog fishers, sharing news, and ensuring the trade routes are open not just for goods, but for goodwill.
