The smell of scorching sugar and the roar of the falls meant Shouun was experimenting again. Down on the lowest docks of Waterfall City, they held a marshmallow precariously over the open flame of their guiding lantern, specs fogged from the heat and river spray. "You're holding it too close," a familiar voice sighed. Remiya stood there, arms crossed, looking utterly unimpressed. "The perfect golden-brown requires patience, not brute force." Shouun squinted, nudging their glasses up. "This is the express method. Efficient." The marshmallow promptly burst into a tiny inferno. With a casual flick of the wrist, Shouun sent the fireball sailing into the river. "A tribute to the fish gods," they declared. Remiya just shook their head, hiding a smile.
