Chimper #2555
The old fishers say the river gives as much as it takes, a proverb Umitarou learned the hard way. They were a trainee then, learning the currents of Waterfall City from a seasoned angler who treated the water with reverence. But reverence was no shield against the flash flood that tore their mentor from the rocks below the main plaza. Umitarou stood helpless, their fishing rod a useless stick against the roaring water. They waited, gazing into the depths for days, but the river never gave them back. It was months later, watching the unrestrained power of the warrior Hiro, that something broke. Patience had cost them everything. Strength might have saved a life. Umitarou still carries their rod, but they no longer wait for a bite; they practice its swing like a spear.
