Chimper #79
Every morning, before the freezing winds start to howl through The Great Panda City, Jiyuri takes out a brush and a slip of bamboo paper. They paint a monster. Sometimes it has twisting metal limbs, other times far too many teeth. They once heard stories of Taihiโs painful transformation and saw a reflection of their own deepest fear: that the polished platinum body they inhabit could one day betray them. But Jiyuriโs monsters never look truly scary for long. They add a beret at a jaunty angle, or give the beast a flower to sniff. Then they tuck the paintings into cherry blossom branches for others to find. The city's residents don't know who the artist is, only that these funny creatures make the cold mornings feel a bit warmer.
