Chimper #240
The fishers at the bottom of Waterfall City will tell you the lucky plant on Reichiru's head blooms when someone tells a good joke. They say the bamboo on their back is for anyone whose hut springs a leak, and the shades are because they never sleep, always watching over the city. The truth is far less mythical, but much warmer. Reichiru remembers a time before the feather cape and noble title, a time spent in those same sprawling huts downstream. They remember what it was like to need a hand. Since then, every bit of their influence has been spent not in the grand plazas above, but on the rocky stairs connecting the two worlds. They aren't a mystery; they're just present. Most evenings, you can find them sharing a meal on the docks, their quiet authority coming not from their station, but from knowing the name of every child and the worry on every parent's face.
